I loved Dhaka.I thought all of Dhaka was an adventure. Not many tourists visit Bangladesh so the entire trip was an adventure because I was going around and seeing the sites without a guide.
I stayed 0.5K west of Jamuna Future Park. The ride from the house I was staying to the main streets was exciting.
To reach the city center I ran and jumped into a moving bus. There was traffic so I hopped out and rode the rest of the trip in a pedicab. I loved, loved Panam City. I caught a bus there and back. It was a great experience and I thought the locals were very helpful in finding me the right bus at Gulistan.
I also enjoyed the local coffee shops. I always try and find local, small business where entrepreneurs are trying to grow their business.
I liked Kiva Han and California Fried Chicken in Gulshan. Just Juice was another great place. I ate at a couple of local spots as well.
The only time that was boring was when I was waiting for the plane. I was concerned with traffic to the airport so I left much earlier than I needed to. Otherwise it was a jam packed trip. I was a little disappointed with Jamuna Future Park.
I hoped to see a few more people out and shopping a sign that some of the outside investments in the country are filtering down and people can enjoy some leisure activities.
I think I covered it all. The main tourist sites like Lalbagh Fort, Tara Masjid, Banglabazar Book Market, Sadarghat Boat Terminal, and Ahsan Manzil were great but I enjoyed the walks between the sites even more. I understand that you probably want more visitors and tourists but I loved there were not any tourists.
I enjoyed visiting so much and told my brother to visit. He went to Dhaka a year ago and went to all the same sites, although he used a tour guide instead of doing it alone like I did. He stayed in a hotel in Gulshan. He loved Dhaka too.
